"Nizhnesvirsky", a reserve

The "Nizhnesvirsky" natural reserve is located on the territory of the Lodeynopolskiy District. Its are is 41615 hectares. It was founded on 11 June 1980 on the base of the Nizhnesvirsky reserve. It included the shore and the part of the water surface of the Svirskaya bay of Lake Ladoga and the right-bank of the lower reach of the River Svir. There are the middle taiga forest (coniferous forest), meadows, lakes, rivers, sandy ridges which pass along the shore of the Ladoga. There are different types of the marshes in the reserve. The largest marsh is the Segizhskiy marsh. There are more than 570 kinds of the herbaceous plants: 25 from its is special secured and there are 117 kinds of the cormophyte moss. There are four kinds of the Amphibia animals, five kinds of the reptiles, 270 kinds of the birds and 40 kinds of the mammals. The coast of Lake Ladoga is the corridor of migratory birds in spring and autumn periods. There are more than ten kinds of the fish including the salmon, the lake trout, the white-fish, the smelt, the zander, the pike, the ide, the bream, the silver bream, the roach, the perch. The reserve is used for research ornithologists, ichthyologists, botanists, soil scientists.
