ARTS FESTIVALS, festivals of achievements in different kinds of art. As a rule, they are regularly held in most towns and some villages of the Leningrad Oblast. Since 1980 one of the oldest oblast festivals “Teatralnaya Vesna” (“Theatre Spring”) has been held in Luga Town. In the beginning of 1990s the following festivals came to life: festival-contest of children’s dancing groups “Tikhvinsky Lel” (“Tikhvin Lel”) (Tikhvin Town), festival of the Leningrad Oblast puppet theatres (Slantsi Town), festival-contest “Khudozhestvennoye Tvorchestvo Invalidov” (“Amateur and Folk Arts of the Invalids”) (Gatchina Town), festival of chamber classical music “Vechera V Monrepo” (“Evenings in Monrepo”) (Vyborg Town), music festival “Provintsialnye Vstrechy masterov Iskusstv Rossii” (“Meetings of Russian Masters of Arts in the Country”) (Boksitogorsk Town), film festival “Okno v Yevropy” (“Window to Europe”), etc. The second half of 1990s – the beginning of 2000s became the period of boom in the festival movement, the initiators of this movement were the state institutions as well as social organizations and private persons. By 2006 about 100 international, regional, oblast, district and town arts festivals had been held in the Leningrad Oblast. More than a half of the festivals are held in the towns of Vyborg, Gatchina, Luga, Tikhvin, Priozersk, Vsevolozhsk, Volosovo and Sosnovy Bor , which became leaders of the festival movement. The most numerous and popular ones are musical and dancing festivals, including “Baltiysky Bereg” (“The Baltic Coast”) (Sosnovy Bor Town), “Vesenniy Klyuch” (“Spring Water”) (Volkhov Town), “Vesenniy Feierverk” (“Spring Fireworks”) (Noviy Svet Settlement, Gatchina District; Vsevolozhsk Town), “Dver v Leto” (“A Door Into Summer”) (Vyborg Town), “22 Iyunya, Rovno v 4 Chasa…” (“On June 22nd, At 4 O’Clock Sharp…”) (Rakh'ya Urban Village, Vsevolozhsk District), “Kumiry XXI Veka” (“XXI Century Idols”), “Muzika Voyennykh Let” (“War Times Music”) (Luga Town), “Nochnoy Voyazh” (“Night Voyage”) (Vyborg Town), “O Chem Poyut Soldaty” (“Things Soldiers Sing About”) (Tikhvin Town), “Pesny O Samom Glavnom” (“Songs About the Most Important Things”) (Volkhov Town), “Sentyabr v Tikhvine” (“September in Tikhvin Town”) (Tikhvin Town), “S Pesney Po Zhizny” (“Life Full Of Songs”) (Kirishy Town), “Serenady Vyborgskogo Zamka” (“Vyborg Castle Serenades”) (Vyborg Town), “Shag Za Gorizont” (“A Step Beyond the Horizon”) (Volosovo Town), “Yamgorodskaya Stanitsa” (Yamgorod Cossack Village) (Kingisepp Town), and also oblast festivals of ballroom dance groups (Gatchina Town, Sosnovy Bor Town), religious music (Vyborg Town, Tosno Town), ballad songs (Staraya Ladoga Village, Gatchina Town, Gorbunki Village in Lomonosov District), etc. Among the arts festivals we must single out amateur and folk arts festivals: “Derevo Zhizny” (“Tree of Life”) (Vinnitsi Village, Podporozhye District), Izhora festivity (Vistino Village, Kingisepp District), “Kirishskiye Kruzheva” (“Kirishi Laces”) (Kirishi Town), “K Rodnym Istokam Vechnaya Lyubov” (“Everlasting Love to Our Origins”) (Kirishi Town), “Loskutny stil” (“Patchwork Style”) (St.Petersburg), “Mirovaya Derevnya” (“World Village”) (Roshchino Urban VillageVyborg Town), “Pliussky Venok” (“Pliussa Garland”) (Slantsi Town), “Prazdnichnye Zvony” (“Holiday Church Bells”) (Tikhvin Town), “Russky Dvor” (“Russian Court Yard”) (Pikalevo Town), “Svyatochnye zabavy v Tsarstve Sneguriya” (“Christmas Fun in the Kingdom of Sneguriy”) (Priozersk Town); theatre festivals: “Avangard I Traditsiy” (“Vanguard and Traditions”) (Gatchina Town), “Igray, Teatr, Igrai!” (“Perform, Theatre, Perform!”) (Volosovo Town), “Iskusstvo Bez Granits” (“Art Without Borders”) / “Dramatichesky Etud” (“Drama Sketch”) (Lodeinoye Pole Town), “Kukolny Dom” (“Doll’s House”) (Leskolovo Village, Vsevolozhsk District), “Teatralnaya Vesna” (“Theatre Spring”) (Luga Town), “Teatralnaya Osen” (“Theatre Autumn”) (Volosovo Town), “Teatralny Ostrov” (“Theatre Island”) (Gatchina Town); film festivals: “Literatura I Kino” (“Literature and Cinema”) (Gatchina Town), “Luzhskiye Kinoposidelky” (“Film Viewing in Luga Town”) (Luga Town), “Okno v Yevropy” (“Window to Europe”) (Vyborg Town); festivals of painting: “Sosnovoborskaya Mozaika” (“Sosnovy Bor Mosaic”) (Sosnovy Bor Town); military and historical festivals: “Russkaya Krepost” (“Russian Fortress”) (Priozersk Town), “Rytsarsky Zamok” (“Knight’s Castle”) (Vyborg Town).
