ST.PETERSBURG BRANCH OF THE RUSSIAN CULTURE WORKERS' GUILD, voluntary public noncommercial organization. It was founded in 1989, since 1991 it bears its modern name. The chairman is People’s Artist of Russia Y.P. Smirnov. The Guild unites representatives of the Centres of Social and Cultural Activities, clubs, libraries, parks, museums, cinemas, festive occasion organizers, educational institutions of culture and arts, trades and crafts workshops, jeweller’s workshops, excursion offices, folk art companies, social and cultural activity institutions regardless departments and industry sectors they belong. At present it unites more than 800 people. The Guild helps its members in their creative and social activities, organizes and holds conferences, seminars, cultural exchanges, festive activities: mass festivities, concerts, performances, festivals and contests and other cultural and educational activities. The most well-known activities are: festivity concerts dedicated to the 70th and 75th anniversaries of the Leningrad Oblast in the concert hall “Oktyabrsky ”, “Prazdnik Koryushky” (“Smelt Fish Holiday”), “Gribnoy Festival” (“Mushroom Festival”), etc. Several activities organized by the Guild are supported by The Leningrad Oblast Government, including international music festivals-contests “Virtuozy Gitary” (“Guitar Virtuosi”) and “Petropavlovskye Assambley” (“Peter and Paul’s Assemblies”). Being a practice base for the students of the St.Petersburg Academy of Culture and Arts and of the Leningrad Oblast College of Culture and Arts,the Guild works in the field of education of young culture and education workers.
