"Verkhny Oredezh", a natural historical park

Verkhny Oredezh (“The Upper Oredezh”) is a natural historical park the concept of foundation which is considered by the Government of the Leningrad Oblast. The initiator of the project is A.A. Semochkin, the director of the memorial country estate of V.V. Nabokov “Rozhdestvenno”. According the project, “Verkhny Oredezh ” (The Upper Oredezh) will be located in the territory of the Gatchina and Volosovo district. The all area of the park will be 154 thousand hectares, it will be located for a distance of 40 kilometers with a stream the Oredezh River. Upper reaches of the river are known with red banks from Devonian sandstone, clear underwater springs, taiga flora and fauna. The monuments of nature will be a part of the park including “Istoki reki Oredezh v urochische Dontzovo” (The Origins of the Oredezh River in Dontzovo, terrain feature), “Belogorskie devony” (The Belogorsk’s Devonian) (here there are geological sand outcrop and sandstone of the middle devoinian, fossils of the paleozoic fishes are found), and also country estate-park complexes and monuments of the religious architecture including Rozhdestvenno Settlement, Vyra Village, Suversky Urban Settlement, Bartovo Village, Belogorka Village.
